A Working Structure Fire on Virginia Street

A family pet, female dog named Kali, lost her life in a structure fire that was contained to the inside of the home on Christmas Day. The Hillsville Volunteer Fire Department was called out to 200 Virginia Street in Hillsville after  Michael Howlett passed the home and called in to 911 that smoke was coming out of the house, when the Hillsville Police arrived on the scene they noticed it was a working structure fire and that the family was out but there was three pets in the home. Grandson of Wilma Howlett the home  owner was living in the house with his wife but were away at Family for Christmas when they arrived at the house he told me that the only thing that could have started the fire in the back room would have been a cigarette that might have not been put out. The House sustained heavy fire and smoke damage inside
