Hillsville Volunteer Fire Department Responds to Motor Vehicle Accident on Interstate 77

On February 17, 2009, around 11:45 A.M., tones were set off for a two tractor trailer wreck on I-77 south bound around the 23 mile marker, when the Hillsville Volunteer Fire Department arrived on the scene it was the worst wreck in a while, a tractor trailer traveling Northbound on I-77 lost control in the passing lane then went into the Southbound lane and after taking out the guard rail went nose  down into the medium causing the truck to go up into the air sending it over a tractor trailer traveling Southbound and as the truck started down the middle of the roadway, his trailer took out the cab of the truck traveling Southbound. The driver from the Northbound side was flown out by helicopter. The Virginia State Police handled the investigation of the accident.
